Caravel Delivery Promise
The apps are not published yet: this is the help that ships with them.
What you need
A manual rule for each country. For estimates from history (Unlimited), carrier tracking connected to Shopify.
Getting started
- In Rules, check the dispatch country, cut-off and preparation days, and give each country a manual rule.
- Save.
- Add the «Delivery estimate» block to the product template (and to the cart if your theme allows it). The line appears for visitors whose country has a promise.
Where the dates come from
Each day the app reads the fulfilled orders of the last 60 days: the fulfillment time and the delivery time reported by the carrier's tracking. It counts the business days in between in the destination country and keeps weekly totals per region, carrier and method. Delivery confirmation depends on the carrier's tracking being connected to Shopify.
When there is not enough data
Below the minimum number of delivered shipments, the country (or region) uses your manual rule, and the Overview says so. Without a manual rule nothing is shown: the app never invents a date.
The range shown
By default the line shows the 20th to the 80th percentile of past transit times: 6 in 10 past parcels arrived inside it, about 2 in 10 earlier and 2 in 10 later. With few data the range is widened. The storefront always labels it as an estimate.
Cut-off, preparation and holidays
Orders before the cut-off on a dispatch day count from that day; later ones from the next dispatch day. Preparation days are added in the dispatch country's calendar; transit days in the destination's. National holidays of PT, ES, FR, DE, IT, NL and BE are built in; add regional ones and closures as dates.
Islands and postcodes
The country is taken from the store's market (localization). Visitors can type a postcode on the page to see the range for their area; it is used only in the browser and never sent or saved. Madeira, Azores, Canary and Balearic Islands, Ceuta, Melilla, Corsica, overseas France, Sardinia and Sicily never use the mainland range.
Reading the accuracy
Accuracy compares, week by week, the range the app would have shown with the deliveries that really happened, using only earlier data. If «Later than the range» grows, widen the range, raise preparation days or check a carrier in Regions.
Privacy
No customer data is stored: no names, addresses, emails, phone numbers, order numbers or tracking numbers. Postcodes are reduced in memory to their first two characters (or an island zone) and only weekly totals are kept. The storefront reads a pre-calculated app metafield and never calls our server.
Frequently asked questions
Where do the dates come from?
From your fulfilled orders: the business days between fulfillment and the delivery reported by the carrier's tracking, per destination country, region, carrier and shipping method.
What happens with little data?
The app uses the manual rule you set for that country and says so in the admin. With few shipments the range is widened. Without data and without a rule, nothing is shown.
Is the date a commitment?
No. The storefront always labels it as an estimate and shows a range.
Which holidays are included?
National holidays of Portugal, Spain, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands and Belgium. You can add regional holidays, closure days and other countries.
Does it slow down my store?
No calls are made to our server from the storefront. The theme reads a pre-calculated app metafield and a small script shows the dates.
Is customer data stored?
No. Postcodes are reduced to their first two characters in memory and only weekly totals per region, carrier and method are kept.
